The city of Lompoc seems to be having more than it's share of embezzlement cases lately.
This cartoon had quite a negative reaction from folks in the general Lompoc environs. So much so, that they called the editor of theSun to complain and point out that Santa Maria had far more embezzlement cases and general rotton behavior than found in their fair city. They even drew their own rebuttle cartoon copying this one and showing theSun as not a newspaper, but fishwrap.
I based my cartoon on a news story reported in the Santa Maria Times which pointed out the many cases of embezzlement in Lompoc. Apparently, people did not read that story, or don't retain what they read and need a cartoon drawing to get the idea to sink into their head, because no one seemed to have a reaction to the written story, but they did go ballistic at the cartoon. It's worth a thousand words, I guess.

Local flower shop owners are upset that corner vendors are selling flowers and undercutting the business that the shop owners get. Shop owners believe that these corner vendors set up without proper permits and don't pay the usual fees and taxes. In one case dealt with in the county area, a corner vendor did have all necessary paperwork and was donating all profits to charity.
